Review of 10 wines from the VinLab network

Over the past few months, we have been able to taste enough wines from this chain of stores. Let’s combine everything in one post.

Some prices may differ from the current ones, but it would be a mistake not to bring them (as they were at that time).

Altos Ibéricos Crianza, 2016

Absolutely canonical Spanish Tempranillo in the version of Crianza from Rioja. Lots of oak, spices and especially sweet vanilla await at the beginning. We recommend opening it in 3 hours: additional nuances of aroma will appear, the plum will increase and the initial, somewhat aggressive (tannin) taste will be smoothed out.

Duffour Blanc, 2019

For inexpensive France – to unobvious regions. In this case, Gascony. Very solid and high quality, light dining option. Bright aromatics, New Zealand passion fruit motifs. A classic table wine with a pleasant body, light mineralization, white cherries and pepper on the tongue.

Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Riesling, 2018

It’s Riesling, baby! A lot of ripe peach, pineapple. The aroma is very clean, fruity, breathing cold stone. High acidity, medium body and long lasting taste. Lots of green apple and pineapple with lime. Benzene? Give it a couple of years!

About Pinot Noir from the same manufacturer has already been written twice. We will not repeat ourselves. Let’s just say that we like it very much!

Marquis de Mons Margaux, 2016

Wine to be understood. It will be important with you, hint, but it will not jump out of the glass with brightness. It will close first. Shows oak, light earthiness, hints currant. He will think and open with walnuts and cloves. Soft and balanced on the palate with quite pronounced tannin. Required for long-term aeration.

Nicosia Syrah, 2018 / Nerello Mascalese, 2018

It was not possible to make friends with Nerello. Still, it is better for him on the slopes of Etna (in the same place in Sicily). The aroma is good: there are northern berries, matches, and raspberry jam, but the extremely aggressive acidity negates everything in the world.

Syrah, on the other hand, is pleasant and gastronomic. Red berries, spices and dusty books, juicy berry acidity. Favorite in the “universal table” category.

Familia Torres Sangre de Toro Original, 2018

Bovine blood, if literally. The aroma has black berries with hints of currants, ripe strawberries, raspberries and melted chocolate. Pronounced bitterness and low acidity. Sufficiently soft tannin. Not bad, but somewhat unprincipled wine. He will not be loved, but it will not fail, given that 2021 is the year of the Ox. Symbolism, however 😀

Oyster bay pinot noir

Recognizable, like Levitan’s “Moscow Says”. Full of all kinds of mushrooms and moss, ripe wild berries and fine milk foam with Pinot Noir cinnamon. Nice balance, bright enough, not heavy and not at all watery.

Berton foundstone chardonnay

Another wine, from which a picture can be painted in the chapter “Chardonnay without barrel aging”. Almost reference, with flowers, melon and lemon pie in both taste and aroma. Quite long aftertaste with sweet pineapple bitterness. In the end it seemed that the alcohol was a little too high, but Anya insisted that it “seemed”.

Berton black shiraz

For wine enthusiasts, Shiraz is the second, if not the first, symbol of Australia after the kangaroo. Someone will find in this “black” Shiraz a hookah in the form of a mix of black berries with mint, and someone will also find red currant jam. Cheeky, juicy, not at all acidic, overly peppery and a little alcoholic. And who has no flaws?

Santa Digna Cabernet Sauvignon

No show off, just a good and recognizable Cabernet, without a single hint of “green”. Currants are closer to jam, black berries, prunes, tobacco leaf and a little marinade. The taste is harsh at first: both in acidity and in tannins. If you drink it now, aerate it longer (from 2 hours). You can hold it for a year or two.
